Humanity as a Farce. The Attari-Wagah Border

I've never stood at the Attari-Wagah border between India and Pakistan, never felt the ground shake from the soldiers' stomps or heard the crowd's chants fill the air. My experience of this ceremony comes entirely from watching videos on YouTube, yet even through a screen, it’s impossible to miss the raw humanity on display.

Here we see the meeting point between two of the most interesting countries on the planet. In these clips, the ceremony feels like more than just a ritual—it’s a powerful metaphor for the tangled and unfinished threads that connect us. The soldiers’ high kicks and sharp movements are intense, almost aggressive, yet there's a strange beauty in this farce, in their synchronicity, as if they’re not just performing but also grappling with something deeper.

Watching the flags lower in perfect unison, I’m struck by the contradiction—this moment of unity set against a backdrop of division. It’s a reminder that no matter how we try to separate ourselves, the threads of shared history and humanity are never fully untangled. Even through the lens of a camera, the ceremony reveals how complex, and ultimately connected, we really are.

There are many videos here on YouTube.
